Parish Council Correspondence with West Northamptonshire Council Regarding Village Issues
In July, the Parish Council wrote to West Northamptonshire Council to raise the concerns of parishioners and Councillors about a number of high-risk areas in the village. The concerns focussed on three main areas, all of which are interrelated.
Flooding in the village – lack of appropriate measures being taken such as regular drain clearance and maintenance, ongoing maintenance of the clack valves and proper positioning of the outlet valve to the river Nene. Matters have been made worse (and will continue to be) by the number of new developments that do not fully consider or allow for drainage.
Road safety – a request for consideration of a 20mph speed limit for the village along with new road speed markings, as the current ones have faded. This has particular relevance to school traffic.
New development planning approval – the village has met its commitments under the approved Neighbourhood Development Plan, yet new developments have been approved and more are planned. We believe full consideration has not been given to the increased flood risk and traffic issues.
The reply from WNC was far from satisfactory and we shall be going back to them with our point by point response. The flooding issues in Kislingbury Village this week can only serve to add weight to our concerns.
